Google DeepMind on Wednesday announced Gemini 4 Carbon, a new frontier model focused on cybersecurity and long-horizon tasks, which Google says ranks first on version 5.0 of the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index with a score of 59. Access starts this week with a subset of cyber defenders and will expand gradually to trusted partners before a wider release to developers, businesses and consumers. Microsoft made its Copilot harness, which powers GitHub Copilot and Copilot Studio, available through Microsoft Foundry for building agents across more than 20 models, and Reuters reported that Anthropic told California Governor Gavin Newsom in an October 15 letter that officials should be able to seek court orders blocking the release of AI models that pose a serious risk to the public.
